Common questions
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?
It depends on the work and on your city or county. Replacing fixtures in place may not need one, while moving plumbing, adding electrical circuits or changing walls generally does. Your city or county building department sets the rules, so ask about permits at the site visit.
Can a tub be converted to a walk-in shower?
It’s a common change. Whether it suits your bathroom depends on the drain location, the space and the floor, so ask about it at the site visit.
What if there’s water damage behind the walls?
Hidden water damage or rot is common in older bathrooms and is often only found once walls or floors are opened. It has to be repaired before new finishes go in. See water damage repair.
